37 years ago you came in to the world.
I certainly haven’t known you for that long, but so much in my world would be different if you hadn’t spent the last nearly 4 decades making your parents a little crazy .
You see that picture right there? I will start there…. our family. You making an appearance on July 24th, 1975 lead, in a very roundabout way to you making fun of me in the KSPR-TV newsroom in Springfield, Missouri and eventually convincing me that when you make fun of a girl – it means you like her. And then naturally, you ask her to marry you.
With a poem.
And then we were lucky enough to have two incredible, freckled small people. Those small people go to bed at night thinking you are a superhero. They are right. There isn’t a Daddy in the universe who would rather spend time with their kids than do ANYTHING else. And yet, you would. Everything in your heart revolves around them. Without you, they wouldn’t be growing into the extraordinary little beings they are. They certainly wouldn’t be as athletic – of that you can be certain. (See? I told you I was funny)
Without you, I wouldn’t laugh as hard, I wouldn’t have a teammate to help me raise those crazy small people and I wouldn’t have someone who understands and supports my dreams.
Know this: I understand and support yours as well.
37 is just the beginning.
I know, I did it two years ago.
This year, I wish you love, peace of mind, the ability to focus on the future, a series of opportunities that lead you down a path you enjoy, moments of contentment and time spent on you.
Happy Birthday, Jeff. I love you.
