You would think that my kids wouldn’t be watching TV with their babysitters when you specifically asked that TV be left out of the playtime equation, right? I guess that would assume people can hear me when I speak…and I am not always sure that is the case.
Now, wait a minute! I do know they heard me (the two, sweet sisters who babysit together) because it was actually a conversation about TV vs. reading. The older sister then explained to me that she is a slow reader, so she doesn’t enjoy it much. I asked that the kids only watch one 1/2 hour show right after lunch time. She said, ‘No Problem’.
My return home was unexpected. I changed my errand route while I was out and stopped by to drop off some groceries. I was only gone for an hour and a half. I walk in…all four of them are sitting on the couch watching a movie. (with the older sister on her cell phone) Delaney says, “Mommy, we’re watching the Care Bears movie”….I replied, “OK….but you won’t be able to watch anything after lunch since you are watching now”….and then directly addressed the girls, repeating my desire.
It is just so disappointing. They really are sweet girls….and Delaney and Cooper love to have them over. But I am not comfortable having babysitters who specifically ignore my requests.
In theory, I am aware that kids will often watch more TV with a sitter than with me…and, normally that doesn’t bother me. However, when I request that the TV be kept off, I would love to think it happens. (They were only watching the kids for a total of 3 hours)
Hmmmm…I guess I will need to go in search of some new sitters.
