Let’s be clear about something. I am an imperfect exerciser.
I wish I could tell you I was religious about it, that I only ate the healthiest of food, that I always feel on the top of my game. But, I can’t.
I am reasonably healthy. I don’t over eat (often). I am not overweight. (so far) I eat fruits and vegetables (sometimes) But, I do try.
Today, my trip to the gym with the kids was thwarted by the truly unsympathetic woman at our gym’s front desk. Apparently, you have to make RESERVATIONS to bring your kids with you. Since this was my very first visit, and I wasn’t aware of this rule, (and neither was my husband), I was not able to hit the treadmill. And I was standing right next to them. I could actually smell the sweat of all the people who were getting to work out. Not me. Nope, I’m taking my kids back to the car and heading home.
I decided to do a yoga video at home. I was determined to get back in the exercise game. Today.
Both kids started doing the video with me. Very cute and only slightly distracting. Their attention span didn’t last long, so I was (blissfully) on my own.
Until my 30 minutes was up and it was back to the real world. The yelling at me for lunch (this is what happens when both kids refuse to eat breakfast….they are hungry, early) put me on edge. So, what did I do? Well, I noticed the homemade chocolate chip cookies in the cabinet next to the bread (which I opened to make an early lunch) So, I had myself a few cookies. It was my silent, though silly, attempt at thumbing my nose at the stress I didn’t get rid of during yoga. In fact, I might have actually been thumbing my nose at my kids. I can almost bet that I would have taken pleasure in telling them I was eating a cookie before lunch, if they had asked.
Well, now. There goes that work out.
At least I have reservations at the gym for tomorrow. And, I won’t have cookies in the car.
