I could also call this post, “Why I love my daughter’s imagination.”
Right now, you’re probably thinking Zach is a neighborhood boy, or maybe someone Delaney didn’t like at school.
Nope, “Zach” is the comforter on my 3 year old’s bed. I’m still giggling about it. Let me start at the begininng.
We’ve had a battle of wills today. I asked Delaney to make her bed this morning, and I was told, “no”. Apparently, she “didn’t want to”. Charming. In my new quest to remain calm at all times, I suggested she ‘make the right decision and listen to her Mommy.” Nope. Not having it. So, I explained the ‘consequence’ (yes, I actually used that word) would be no treats, tv, or toys today. She said that was fine. I tried to explain that ‘all day’ was REALLY ALL DAY. Still no budging. Ok…I’ll take it. I didn’t get mad, but I am sticking to my guns.
Of course, once she was home from school, the idea of ‘no toys or treats’ didn’t sit so well. I gave her a second chance to make her bed so she could play with her toys. But, she had to try to make the bed on her own.
She came up to me just a few minutes later and said, “Mommy, I need your help, I’m having a little trouble with Zach.” I said, “You’re having a little trouble with your back?”, “NOOOO, I’m having trouble with ZACH. Come here, I’ll show you.”
Sure enough, she was having trouble with “Zach”. She explained when I got to her room that ‘this’ (her comforter) was Zach, named for a boy at school. And ‘this’ (her sheet) was named Isabella.
Fortunately, we got Zach and Isabella all straightened out!
