Call it tradition, call it obession, call it habit, just call it a mother’s love: I CANNOT go to sleep without creeping in to peak at my sleeping babies. I have to put my hands on them and whisper, “Mommy loves you.”
I guess it is my way of trying to influence their dreams. I hope, if they know they are loved, even when they are sleeping, it will make for a peaceful night’s sleep and a sweet awakening in the morning.
There is something so beautiful about a sleeping child. All of the sassiness, back-talking, temper-tantruming, and battling of wills just melts away…and I am left with the angel I carried for 9 months…the sweet one who wants only hugs, kisses and the opportunity to giggle endlessly.
Seeing them in those moments of peace keeps me centered, helps me to sleep like a baby and prepares me for the next day. The more I write about this, the more I wish I was sitting in their rooms just staring at them. I think that is where I need to be. Good night.
