Late this afternoon my hubby called.
He had been given two tickets to the Cardinals/Cubs game – a luxury suite – free food and drink. He said, “Do you want them – maybe want to take someone?” – AS THOUGH HE WOULD HAVE ALLOWED ME TO PRY THE TICKETS FROM HIS COLD FINGERS.
What he really wanted was to take Coop. But he REALLY didn’t want to hurt Delaney’s feelings (that’s ok – I’m fine – don’t worry about me!) Knowing this, I made it easy. I suggested he take Coop and I spoil Delaney with girl time.
The boys went to the game. Delaney and I did not. With a sparkle and a grin, she said, “Mommy, it is like you and I are going on a date or something.”
Or something is right.
We went to the Library and then out for quesadillas at Chevys.
She is a REAL person. We had conversations. We picked out books. We read. We colored. We called Daddy to tattle when someone at the next table said, *gasp* “Go Cubs!” And she still wanted to hold my hand. And when she said prayers, she thanked God for her ‘special date with Mommy’. I’m wiping tears. Of joy.
You know what tonight was? HEAVEN.
Just me and my girl. Prime-Time Heaven.
Oh – and the boys had fun too. I think they felt the same about their night together as we felt about ours.
Plus, the Cardinals won.
