I don’t know if this happens to you, but my daughter would prefer NOT to learn from me. She will work on writing her letters, draw the ‘Z’ backwards, and prefers to leave it that way rather than have me correct it. She can struggle with the zipper on her coat, but would rather leave it flapping in the wind than have me fix it.
And this summer at the pool, she absolutely refused to go under water – no matter how many times I offered to coach her in holding her breath and swimming.
Her ‘noooooo’ was often out of her mouth before my offer of assistance was complete.
I figured it must be a mini struggle for independence…..we are probably spending too much time together, right?
So…I decided to let her be.
And she did it. This very last week of summer – she held her breath, went under water and swam.
And she loved it.
Mommy Lesson #214 = sometimes stepping back allows for a big dive forward.
