The older I get, the easier it is to watch moments come full circle. Especially now that I am a parent.
I married into a baseball family. If you have been to my home you have seen the shrine that appears for the St. Louis Cardinals come October. You know that ‘Cardinal Red’ is a favorite color and you know my small people have been holding bats and gloves since they were but little tykes.
But did you also know my small girl can throw a perfect football spiral, naturally? And that I was raised on football? I have most certainly adopted the sport of baseball, but when you love football as I do, it doesn’t fade away – you simply allow another sport to come in behind.
My relationship with football had a bit of a rocky start…as a small girl, the sport monopolized my dad’s attention on the weekend. In order to squirm my way into his focus, I begged to ‘do his hair’ while he watched the game. Yes, you read that right. He would sit, mesmerized by the game, while my small hands worked to place every plastic barrette I had in his hair. Do you remember them? The yellow horses? The red flowers? The blue butterflies? My goal was to get ALL of them in at once. In a perfect world, I would have a picture to show this to you, but you are going to have to rely on my retelling and your own imagination.
I grew up in Southern California – so Saturdays we rooted for UCLA and Sundays? The Los Angeles Rams.
I began to love the sounds of the game. I was the teen aged girl and then college student who understood downs, who could explain a safety and actually watched the game on Sundays and during the Super Bowl
Here is your full-circle moment. I now live in St. Louis. The home of the St. Louis Rams. My football history, or Fan-Cestry, if you will, is being passed on to my small people as they watch the games on the weekends and even meet the players when they visit their school to encourage reading.
And my small dude is DYING to begin playing the game.
Who is your team? Here is where the fun part comes in. I’m with P&G on the launch of Fan-Cestry, and interactive way to gauge the history of your love of the game. You can celebrate being a fan of your team, how you watch them play and naturally, how serious you are about their wins.
We all have our rituals, our superstitions, and our personal way of guaranteeing their path to success. By filling out your Fan-Cestry page, a 30 second quiz, you will learn more about your team and you will be entered to win two tickets to the SuperBowl. You will then be able to share your knowledge and extra information with your friends and fellow fans.
If enough people fill out their Fan-Cestry via ExtraordinaryMommy, I will be eligible to win two tickets to the Super Bowl as well AND will have two additional tickets to give away right here on the site.
I’m delighted to be working with P&G on the launch of their Fan-Cestry campaign – naturally all opinions are my own.
