When it comes to sports and kids it seems the two go hand in hand for many families. Cleary you know that is the case for us with softball, baseball and basketball being the primary passions for my daughter and son. Having kids in sports brings many benefits for both parents and kids alike. The reality of sports is that this fun team activity teaches a lot of lessons that are necessary as a means to grow up to be well-rounded adults. If you’re thinking about getting your kids into sports, then you probably already know some of the reasons why sports are good for kids.
While sports do take a huge commitment of both time and money, they do allow your kids to experience new places, expand upon current skills and learn new skills all the while making new friends. Today I’m going to dig into the topic of sports and kids to explain why sports a good option for kids to be a part of.

From the high fives to the team playing mentality and that first time they get a goal or hit a home run, kids start to develop a higher level of self-esteem when they participate in sports. The entire process of playing any sport can help promote high self-esteem and allow your kids to be more confident in other areas of life due to the support and growth they experience during their sports games and practices.
Sports help kids learn good social skills. Since most sports teams require every team member to be supportive of each other and communicate with each other as a means to work as a solid team, it helps teach your kids social skills. Kids who are normally shy or reluctant to be social with other kids tend to have more social skills when they’re involved in a team sport due to the positive environment a sports team provides kids.
Sports help teach kids that they won’t always be the best or win at everything but as they acknowledge what they’re good at and where their weaknesses, they start to embrace defeat. This mentality will help your kids always thrive to be better and stronger in their area of weakness both during sports practices and games. Being able to embrace defeat and get back up will kids be more adaptable and resilient in all areas of life.
Playing sports helps kids learn leadership skills and team player skills that are not easily taught in any other method. Being a part of a sports team and working with others to succeed while communicating effectively with each other is a great way to develop leadership skills within your kids. Leadership skills are something that every kid should master as a means to be a positive part of society and further advance their career when they get into adulthood.

This skill will help kids thrive in all areas of life as they learn to embrace the fact that the harder they work and focus on their skills that the better off they’ll be when they venture out on the field for their next sports game. Last, but not least, sports are good for kids because it helps encourage physical activity. Being healthy in life means developing a good balance between eating healthy and having daily activity. Sports provides kids with an outlet that helps them stay active as they venture into their favorite sports season year after year. Kids will be healthier when they play sports on a regular due to the schedule and eating constraints they learn due to the self-discipline they’ll learn.
These are just some of the reasons why sports are good for kids that I wanted to share with you all today. When it comes to being a sports parent there is a lot of time involved to get the kids to and from events as well as money involved in the equipment needed, but at the end of the day, this is all worth it because sports are good for kids in so many ways.
