My small girl is only nine. Up until now she has been a fairly free spirit. She is strong willed, sporty (oh-is-she-sporty), unwilling to compromise on her style – which consists mainly of soccer shorts, t-shirts, tennis shoes or cleats, ponytails and headbands that say ‘I Shoot’, or ‘I Hit’ or ‘I Score’, emotional, sweet spirited and kind.
She is also sensitive, incredibly fearful of any kind of attention- positive or negative, constantly worried she has upset someone – which means ‘I’m sorry’ falls from her mouth like raindrops and she is determined to avoid tackling ANYTHING – from a new team, to a camp to walking in to school – on her own.
Just the other day, I saw this…. and knew it was perfect for her. It will soon be hanging on the wall in her room as a constant reminder of what I believe of her:
On her good days, and there will be many, I want her to smile and relish this.
On her bad days, and there will definitely be some, I want her to breathe in to this and remember that I am behind her to hold her up.
