We’ve waded through the submissions for the Capital One Mascot Challenge Blogger Contest…. we’ve laughed, nodded our heads in understanding, and even raised a few eyebrows at your (whispers) enthusiasm, but are left to conclude only one thing:
Many women, do, in fact, love FOOTBALL. (told you so) College football specifically.
We’ve selected the winners and will be introducing them all to you in great detail in due time, but thought it would be fun for you to see a few of the highlights of said enthusiasm from the submissions.
**note – not all quotes are from the women selected**
As a kid, every sport I played I would name my team The Hurricanes. I took the schools colors seriously, my room and clothes were Orange and Green, and if my mom let me, I would have colored my hair orange and green too.People can call my name all they want, but I will never answer because my feet are abnormally larger than usual, I am sweating more than any girl should ever admit to sweating and in places no girl should ever admit to sweating, and I am… The Bird. I am a freshman at the Air Force Academy and I am a girl mascot that plays a boy Bird.
I attended every home football game that first season with vigor and hope (even though we finished with a dismal record, student tickets were free!) I learned the Alma mater and the fight song. I watched my dear football team change conferences, get a logo and uniform make-over, sift through a few coaches and blossom into a bowl contender!
UTEP is a school that hasn’t received a lot of recognition lately, our time is now. I plan to get this message across to as many people that will let me talk their ears off! I am an extremely outgoing student/fan of UTEP willing to do just about anything to get a vote for Pete! I bet an opponent in my fantasy football league 1000 votes if I won our matchup this week. Guess what! I won! So, I just got 1000 votes for Paydirt Pete for being a savvy sports lover!
Looking back on those first 7 home games, you can follow my twitter on every scoring play that the Monarchs had, which in turn was forwarded to my facebook informing all of my friends of how much I love the game. I was known for all scoring play updates anytime the Monarchs played on their home field. Even when the team was away I had my ESPN mobile giving me live updates.
As Josie, my head fell off twice, I was “mounted” by the Kansas Jayhawk and had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent UCLA while riding on a barge with the deafening band behind us on San Antonio’s RiverWalk for the Sweet 16.
my youngest daughter (8) has already told us that she plans to go to U of Minnesota to play hockey for the Gophers. Guess you can say its just in our blood! : )
