Everytime I have the pleasure of spending time with adults, we find ourselves talking about the economy – gas prices, the cost of milk, the cost of bread, basically, the cost of life.
That makes me feel old. It used to sound a bit like a joke, “have you seen the cost of gas?”, but now, not only is it NOT a joke…it is terrifying. We pulled in to get gas today, and the car/truck/suv who had been there before us paid $81.00. $81.00? That is insane to me. I looked around and saw the other other stations had totals of $63, $55, and $59. Our grand total was $62. Ouch!
Fortunately, I don’t have to fill up very often. And I have been known to try to ‘trick myself’ into feeling better about the cost by filling up every time I hit a 1/2 full tank. Somehow, that $30 price tag doesn’t feel quite so painful (even though I know it is only 1/2).
Looking back, it appears that gas has almost tripled in only the last six years….it is crazy. And that fact that gas prices are so high that they dominate conversation that is typically light-hearted and fun, definitely makes me feel old.
Can you believe the cost of bread?
