The older my small people get, the more I’m compelled to spend time with them (thank goodness I’m still *cool*) and to feel a strong yearning to show them the world. You and I both know distant travel is time consuming (yes, the kids are in school) and pricey. So, I partnered with Experience Columbus and my friends at SheKnows to create a list of options that are local to the Midwest (where you know I live), within driving distance for so many of us, and YES!!! Free!
Who makes up the Great Midwest? Well, a whole bunch of beautiful states right here in the middle of the country. When I first moved here and realized so many people on the coasts are ‘coast-centric’ – meaning they don’t know if Missouri borders Kansas, if Illinois and Iowa are first cousins or if it is even WORTH traversing this part of the country, I often found myself explaining my new world as the ‘dead-center-of-pin-the-tail-on-the-United-States’. What I now know was missing from that brief description is the urging to take the time to explore it – as there is so much history, so much beauty and goodness and so much to learn.
In this post over on my SheKnows Experts page, I take you through 25 of the best and most extraordinary places to visit in this part of the country….from the world of baseball legends to history of our presidents and astonishing museums to parks bigger than that famous one in NYC and yes, even some candy touring. If you are seeking Midwest Travel (and free options at that)….this is where you want to start….
I hope you will take the time to peruse the list and share with me a few of your favorites….
