Let’s be honest. How many 3 year olds do you know that actually possess patience?
Ok…I’m counting. One…nope. One…no, not her either. Ummmm, Ok, I’m drawing a blank.
I love toddlers…especially my own, but I’m finding patience, while clearly valuable, is not a trait 3 year olds pick up on easily.
Since my daughter doesn’t think to tell me she is getting hungry, I have to move quickly when she decides it is time. Since there is little to no warning when she has to go to the bathroom, that, too, needs to happen on the double. And, heaven forbid she has to ‘wait her turn’ or deal with a long drive to her favorite playground.
I think time actually occurs differently when you are so little…especially when you really want something. 3 minutes can feel like 3 hours, or longer.
Looking way back in my memory vault, I do remember the wait for Santa was eternal.
Her lack of patience, means mine needs to grow. Instead of snapping, “No, for the 35th time, we are not THERE YET!”, I need to find ways to respond kindly. She is, of course, learning from me every day.
So, I will re-double my patience efforts, and hope to lead my little ‘Patience Tester’ towards the correct virtues.
